I do not use these socks for athletic use, I bought them to use as a casual/work sock. When putting them on the first time I thought I had made a big mistake, they are quite tight fitting, and it seemed like I was always aware of them, never could just forget I was wearing a comfortable pair of socks. However, I quickly adjusted to them, and like them so much I bought more! No bunching up, and I really like how they feel. I have been wearing them more than the Smartwool socks I have (not knocking Smartwool, they are good socks, and warmer than these).
